Current Position: Clerk of Works / Safety Officer
Line Manager: Project Manager / Site Architect
Location: Project Site
SECTION II – POSITION
Overall Purpose of the Job:

To oversee on-site construction activities, ensuring all works adhere to project specifications, safety
regulations, and quality standards. The role supports project execution by identifying deviations,
ensuring compliance, and providing timely feedback to stakeholders.


Dimensions:

Deliver quality inspections, enforce safety standards, and ensure timely issue escalation for corrective
actions.


Supervision:

No direct reports, but collaborates with site workers, contractors, consultants, and
suppliers.


Internal / External Contacts:


Internal – Project Manager, Site Architect, Consultants
External – Contractors, Local Authorities, Statutory Bodies


SECTION III – AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Technical Supervision & Quality Control
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with drawings, specs, and safety
    standards.
  • Perform inspections of steel reinforcement, formwork, and concrete works.
  • Confirm setting out, plumb, and dimensions of structural elements before execution.
  • Supervise sampling and testing (e.g. cubes, drainage tests) and maintain test records.
  • Reject substandard materials/work and escalate to the Architect or Project Manager.

Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain a Site Instruction Book and keep daily site logs (visits, deliveries, tests).
  • Provide weekly/monthly site progress reports versus program schedule.
  • Document all site clarifications, instructions, and confirmatory notes.
    Coordination & Communication.
  • Ensure contractors adhere to instructions, drawings, and quality benchmarks.
  •  Liaise with consultants for technical clarifications and issue resolution.
  • Attend site meetings and represent the Architect/Project Manager as assigned.
    Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Report any safety breaches or hazards immediately for corrective action.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness on-site.

  • 100% compliance with specifications and safety requirements
  • Timely identification and resolution of site issues
  • Accurate and up-to-date documentation of site activities
  • Effective communication with contractors and consultants
SECTION V – JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Key Competencies
  • Strong technical knowledge in construction, materials, and QA/QC procedures
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Proactive problem-solver with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and project documentation
Academic / Professional Background
  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Safety certification is an added advantage

Work Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a construction supervision or Clerk of
    Works role

Decision-Making Authority
  •  Can recommend corrective action but escalates key decisions to the Project Manager or
    Architect.
